Liebherr has delivered its first R 9600 ultra-class excavator to Northern Star Resources' KCGM Operations at the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The 600-tonne excavator joins 17 Liebherr machines already operating across Northern Star Resources' mining portfolio, with a second R 9600 scheduled for delivery later in 2026.
The Liebherr R 9600 is positioned by the manufacturer as the benchmark machine in the 600-tonne excavator class, delivering productivity, reliability, and fuel efficiency for demanding large-scale open-pit mining environments. The Super Pit at Kalgoorlie-Boulder is one of the world's most recognised open-cut gold mining operations, currently operated by Northern Star Resources following its acquisition of the KCGM joint venture.
