The principal mining companies operating in the DRC are Glencore, CMOC Group, Ivanhoe Mines, Zijin Mining, Barrick Gold, AngloGold Ashanti, ERG (Eurasian Resources Group), and CNMC. These companies operate the country's major copper, cobalt, zinc, and gold mines. Gécamines, the DRC state mining company, holds minority interests across most large operations but does not act as operating partner.
Major operators by commodity
Copper and cobalt: Glencore (KCC, Mutanda), CMOC (TFM, KFM), Ivanhoe Mines / Zijin Mining (Kamoa-Kakula), ERG (BOSS Mining, Metalkol RTR), CNMC (DEZIWA).
Zinc (with copper and germanium by-products): Ivanhoe Mines (Kipushi, 68%), with Gécamines (32%).
Gold: Barrick Gold (Kibali, 45%, operator), AngloGold Ashanti (Kibali, 45%).
State participation
Gécamines holds minority stakes in most large copper-cobalt mines: 20 percent in TFM, 5 percent in KFM, 32 percent in Kipushi, and a share in KCC through the state participation structure. SOKIMO holds 10 percent in Kibali. The DRC government holds 20 percent in Kamoa-Kakula. These stakes are non-operating and generate royalties, dividends, and other receipts documented in the EITI DRC reconciliation.
