About
SNCC SA (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer du Congo) is the Democratic Republic of Congo's national railway company and the backbone of the country's mineral export logistics. Operating a rail network of over 5,033 kilometres across the DRC, SNCC is the primary carrier of copper, cobalt and other mineral cargo from the Katanga and Lualaba mining provinces to export ports. The company connects the DRC's landlocked mining heartland to ports in Tanzania (Dar es Salaam), Zambia (Ndola) and South Africa (Pretoria) through the Central African railway corridor. SNCC operates freight, passenger and port services and plays a critical enabling role in the DRC mining supply chain — providing the most cost-effective bulk transport route for copper cathode, cobalt hydroxide and copper concentrate from the Copperbelt to the Indian Ocean coast. The railway is state-owned and has received rehabilitation support from the World Bank and USAID. SNCC is a regular exhibitor at Mining Indaba, where it promotes the DRC rail corridor to mining operators, investors and logistics companies evaluating mineral export routes.
