GCB Bank PLC is Ghana's largest indigenous commercial bank by branch network, with over 214 branches across all regions of the country, and is listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GCB). Founded in 1953 as the Bank of the Gold Coast to serve Ghanaian traders, farmers and business people who could not obtain financing from expatriate banks, GCB became Ghana Commercial Bank upon independence in 1957 and rebranded to GCB Bank in 2013. The Ghanaian Government holds a 21.4% stake, with the balance owned by institutional and private investors. GCB Bank provides commercial banking services to large corporations, parastatal companies, SMEs and individuals, with a particular focus on serving Ghana's extractive sector through its corporate banking and trade finance divisions. The bank is a key provider of mining finance, commodity-backed lending and working capital facilities to gold and manganese mining companies and their supply chains operating across Ghana's Western, Ashanti and Upper East regions. GCB Bank generated GHS 6.3 billion in operating income in its most recent reporting period and employs over 1,500 staff.
