Somika SARL (Société Minière du Katanga) is one of the Democratic Republic of Congo's foremost privately-owned copper and cobalt mining and processing companies. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Lubumbashi, Somika has grown to become the country's largest Congolese-owned mineral processing enterprise, operating mines at Lupoto, Kimpe, Mabaya and Kapapa across the Katanga Province. The company's flagship processing facility on Kipushi Road spans 120 acres and houses a state-of-the-art laboratory running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Somika's annual production capacity includes 24,000 metric tonnes of LME-grade copper cathode, 2,400 metric tonnes of cobalt hydroxide, 10,000 tonnes of copper blister via three electric arc furnaces, and sulphuric acid produced through a facility launched in 2019. All Somika products meet London Metal Exchange quality standards and comply with the 2018 DRC Mining Code. The company employs over 1,500 Congolese nationals directly and sustains thousands more through linked service sectors including banking, insurance, logistics and inspection.
