About
Ruashi Mining SPRL is a copper-cobalt mining and processing company located 10 kilometres east of Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The company is 75% owned by Ruashi Holdings (registered in South Africa, wholly owned by Metorex Ltd., which in turn is wholly owned by Jinchuan Group International Resources Co. Ltd. — a subsidiary of Jinchuan Group, China's largest nickel producer) and 25% by Gécamines (the DRC state mining company). Ruashi Mining operates three open-pit copper-cobalt mines with a designed production capacity of 45,000 tonnes of copper cathodes, 5,000 tonnes of cobalt hydroxide, and 100,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid per year. The operation has a fully integrated processing facility including crushing, grinding, leaching, solvent extraction, electrowinning, and cobalt hydroxide production. In 2021–2025, Ruashi completed the construction of magnetic flotation and roasting systems, significantly enhancing ore processing capability and enabling the use of complex low-grade oxide, sulphide, and mixed ores. This increased annual ore processing capacity by 600,000 tonnes and allows the company to sell concentrates, providing resilience against the DRC's unstable power supply. Ruashi is committed to strategic cooperation with Gécamines and contributes to community infrastructure including water, education, and healthcare programmes around Lubumbashi.
