About
Petra Diamonds Limited (LSE: PDL) is an independent diamond mining company and the operator of the Williamson Diamond Mine — located at Mwadui, south of Mwanza in north-western Tanzania — through its subsidiary Williamson Diamonds Limited (WDL). Williamson is the world's largest single kimberlite pipe to have seen continuous commercial diamond mining, covering 146 hectares. The mine has a resource of approximately 38.1 million carats and a potential life of more than 50 years. Petra Diamonds holds approximately 63% of WDL following a restructuring in 2023, with the Government of Tanzania holding 37%. The mine produces approximately 200,000–350,000 carats of rough diamonds per year from its open-pit operation. Williamson is historically significant for producing rare, large pink diamonds — including the famous 23.6-carat Williamson Pink Star sold for US$49.9 million in 2022. Petra Diamonds is headquartered in St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands, with its registered office in London. It operates the Cullinan Mine (South Africa), Finsch Mine (South Africa) and Williamson Mine, making it the third-largest diamond producer globally by volume. Petra is a member of the FTSE4Good Index.
