About
Mintek is South Africa's national mineral research organisation and one of the world's leading technology organisations specialising in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy and related fields. Established in 1934 by an Act of Parliament, Mintek operates under the executive authority of the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy and provides research, development, technology transfer and commercial services to the global minerals industry. Mintek's services span the full minerals value chain — from exploration and geometallurgy through comminution, concentration, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, biometallurgy, refining and smelting — and its products and services are used in over 40 countries. The organisation runs South Africa's only precious metals analytical laboratory accredited by the London Bullion Market Association, provides pilot-scale testwork and flowsheet development for bankable feasibility studies, and has played a central role in developing South Africa's Critical Minerals Strategy. Mintek employs approximately 800 scientists, engineers and metallurgists at its campus in Randburg, Johannesburg.
