About
Karo Mining Holdings Limited is developing the Karo Platinum Project — Zimbabwe's newest major PGM development — located in the Midlands Province on the Great Dyke. Karo is 70% owned by Tharisa plc (JSE/LSE listed), a South African-based PGM and chrome producer, with the Government of Zimbabwe holding a 15% free-carried stake and the remaining interest held by Zimbabwean parties. The Karo Platinum Project holds initial probable reserves of 35.5 million tonnes grading 2.31g/t PGM, representing approximately 2.5 million ounces of 6E platinum group metals. Phase 1 targets an open-pit mine processing approximately 2.5 million tonnes per year to produce around 190,000 ounces of 6E PGMs annually over a 17-year mine life, with significant potential for subsequent phases. The project is being developed at a Phase 1 capital cost of approximately US$391 million, with infrastructure work ongoing as of 2025. Once at full production, Karo will be one of Zimbabwe's three large PGM producers alongside Zimplats and Mimosa. The Zimbabwean registered company is headquartered in Harare.
