About
IAMGOLD Corporation (TSX/NYSE: IMG) is a Canadian gold mining company with its largest operating asset being the Essakane Gold Mine in Burkina Faso — the largest gold mine in the country and one of the largest in West Africa. Located in the Oudalan Province approximately 330 kilometres northeast of the capital Ouagadougou, near the town of Falagountou and the border with Niger, Essakane is operated through IAMGOLD's subsidiary Essakane S.A., in which IAMGOLD holds 85% and the Government of Burkina Faso 15%. The open-pit mine commenced commercial production in July 2010 after IAMGOLD acquired it through the purchase of Orezone Resources in 2009. Essakane has consistently produced approximately 400,000–430,000 ounces of gold per year and is forecast to produce approximately 430,000 ounces in 2025 following technological upgrades, with a $165 million investment programme announced for 2026. The mine operates one of Africa's largest hybrid solar-diesel power plants, commissioned in 2018, which covers approximately 15% of its power needs. Essakane contributes over $100 million annually in royalties, taxes, and other payments to the Burkinabè state and is a significant employer and community investor in the Sahel region. IAMGOLD also operates the Côté Gold Mine and the Westwood Mine in Canada. CEO is Maryse Bélanger. Headquarters: 150 King Street West, Suite 2200, Toronto, ON.
