About
The Goulamina Lithium Project is one of Africa's largest and highest-grade lithium mines, located in the Bougouni region of southern Mali, approximately 150 kilometres south of Bamako. The project is operated by Ganfeng Lithium Group Co., Ltd. (HKEX: 01772; SZA: 002460) — China's largest lithium producer and one of the world's largest — which holds a 65% stake, with the Government of Mali holding 35% under Mali's 2023 Mining Code (including 5% for local Malian investors). Goulamina officially commenced production in December 2024, becoming Mali's first operational lithium mine and one of the most significant critical mineral developments in West Africa. Phase 1 targets annual production of 506,000 tonnes of lithium spodumene concentrate (SC6), with Phase 2 expected to double output to approximately 1 million tonnes per year. The mine's proven and probable reserves stand at approximately 21 million tonnes and it has an estimated mine life of over 23 years. Concentrate is exported via the port of Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire. In July 2025, Ganfeng completed full acquisition of the project from Leo Lithium following agreement with the Mali government.
