About
The Ghana Chamber of Mines is the principal representative body for companies engaged in the exploration and exploitation of minerals in Ghana, established in 1928. It represents the country's major mining companies including Newmont (Ahafo, Akyem), Gold Fields (Tarkwa, Damang), AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi, Iduapriem), Kinross Gold (Chirano), Perseus Mining (Edikan, Meyas Sand), Asante Gold, and many others. Ghana is Africa's largest gold producer and the Chamber plays a central role in advocacy on the Ghanaian Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, and Parliament. Key issues include the Ghana Minerals and Mining Act (2006), the royalty and tax regime, licensing frameworks, and responsible artisanal and small-scale mining (galamsey) policy. The Chamber publishes an annual Mining Industry Report tracking production, employment, and fiscal contributions of its members. Ghana's mining sector contributes approximately 35–40% of total merchandise exports. CEO: Sulemanu Koney.
