About
La Compagnie Minière de l'Ogooué (Comilog SA) is a Gabonese mining and processing company and a subsidiary of the French mining and metallurgical group Eramet (which holds approximately 63.5% of Comilog; the Gabonese state holds approximately 25%). Comilog is the world's leading producer of high-grade manganese ore, operating the Moanda Mine complex on the Bangombé Plateau in Haut-Ogooué Province, southeastern Gabon — the largest manganese deposit in the world, representing 25% of global high-grade reserves. In 2024, Comilog produced 6.8 million tonnes of manganese ore. The Okouma deposit, added in 2023, is expected to increase production capacity to 10 million tonnes per year at full ramp-up. Beyond mining, Comilog operates the Moanda Industrial Complex (CIM, 600,000 t/yr agglomerate) and the Moanda Metallurgical Complex (CMM, 65,000 t/yr silico-manganese + 20,000 t/yr manganese metal) — making it Gabon's most significant downstream processing operation in the minerals sector. Comilog also manages SETRAG, the concessionaire of the 684 km Transgabonais railway, which connects Franceville/Moanda to the port of Owendo near Libreville, transporting ore, goods, and passengers across Gabon. Comilog and SETRAG together are Gabon's largest private employer with over 3,300 direct employees. In August 2023, Gabon experienced a military coup (General Brice Oligui Nguema). Comilog briefly halted operations for 24 hours before resuming; the transitional government has maintained support for mining activities. CEO: Léod-Paul BATOLO.
