About
La Chambre des Mines du Sénégal (CMDS) is the official representative body of Senegal's private mining sector, established under Law 68-08 of 26 March 1968. A non-profit association, CMDS currently groups approximately 50 local and international mining companies operating in Senegal, covering gold, mineral sands, phosphates, industrial limestone, and other minerals. CMDS acts as the primary interface between private mining operators and the Government of Senegal, engaging in policy dialogue, regulatory development, and industry promotion. The Chamber was involved in shaping Senegal's 2016 Mining Code — one of the more investor-friendly frameworks in West Africa. Key member companies include Sabodala Gold Operations (Endeavour Mining), Mako Gold Operations (Resolute Mining), Grande Côte Operations (Eramet/GCO), Industries Chimiques du Sénégal (ICS/Indorama), Dangote Cement Senegal, and Fortuna Mining (Diamba Sud). The current President of CMDS is Boubacar Ousmane Mbaye, who also serves as Directeur Général of Dangote Cement Sénégal. CMDS maintains a commitment to sector transparency, extractive industry sustainability, and improving the local content and governance framework for mining in Senegal.
