About
Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) is one of the world's largest and longest-operating bauxite mining companies, established in 1963 and operating continuously since August 1973 when the first ship loaded with Guinean bauxite departed from the Port of Kamsar. CBG is 49% owned by the Government of Guinea and 51% by Halco Mining Inc. — a consortium comprising Alcoa (45%), Rio Tinto Alcan (45%), and Dadco Investments (10%). The company mines the world-class Sangarédi bauxite deposit on the Sangarédi Plateau in north-western Guinea, recognised for its outstanding quality with approximately 50–60% alumina content and very low silica levels. CBG currently produces and exports more than 16 million tonnes of high-quality bauxite annually from its four main mine pits — Sangarédi, Bidikoum, Silidara, and N'Dangara — to markets in North America, Europe, and China. The bauxite is crushed and processed at the Kamsar plant on the Atlantic coast, then loaded at CBG's dedicated port at Kamsar for export. CBG employs more than 2,200 people (predominantly Guinean) and has contributed over US$5 billion in revenues to the Guinean state since 1973. CBG holds mining rights through 2038 and has invested nearly US$1 billion in modernisation and production expansion since 2016. CBG is ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certified. CBG is a member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).
